Miva Open University will open its first Lagos Study Centre, taking a major step toward transforming higher education in Nigeria. Located at 376 Herbert Macaulay Way, Yaba, the centre will officially launch on April 29, 2025.

The new facility offers students a reliable, supportive environment where they can study, connect, and thrive. Moreover, equipped with constant electricity, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and an extensive E-Library, the centre directly addresses challenges that students often face, such as poor internet access and unreliable power supply.

Creating a Community for Learning and Growth

Sim Shagaya, Chancellor of Miva Open University, emphasized the importance of the new centre.

“We are excited to launch the Lagos Study Centre as part of Miva’s ongoing commitment to transforming education in Nigeria. This centre is a testament to our belief that learning should be flexible, accessible, and supported by a community that encourages growth,” he said.

The centre features modern study rooms for solo or group sessions, a student lounge for collaboration, and a fully equipped Computer-Based Testing (CBT) centre with over 197 computers to make examinations seamless and comfortable.

Designed With Students in Mind

Iheanyi Akwitti, Registrar of Miva Open University, explained that the team built the Lagos Study Centre with students’ needs as the top priority.

“Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and the Lagos Study Centre has been designed with their needs in mind. From modern study rooms to state-of-the-art computer facilities, we are providing a space that is not only conducive to learning but also supports their well-being,” he said.

However, beyond academics, the facility offers a fully equipped gym to promote physical wellness, a rooftop lounge for relaxation, and an on-site cafeteria. The university plans to open additional centres across Nigeria, targeting cities like Port Harcourt, Jos, Enugu, and Kano, and expanding into rural areas where access to tertiary education is critically needed.

Upcoming Events to Celebrate the Launch

To further celebrate the opening, Miva will host a Career Day on April 30, offering free career consultations and development workshops, alongside an admissions fair for prospective students. A special Masterclass will provide academic and professional guidance, and visitors on that day will enjoy a 5% discount on full-year tuition fees.

Festivities will continue on May 2, featuring networking activities, games, and a meet-and-greet with faculty members, creating an opportunity for students to build connections and feel part of the Miva community.

The Lagos Study Centre represents the first of many hubs designed to provide students across Nigeria with a reliable, inspiring place to study, grow, and succeed.
